Tanzania seeks Lankan expertise for coconut industry

TTSri Lankan knowledge and experience are essential to uplift Tanzanian industries, especially with regard to the development of the coconut industry, Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Co-operation, Bernard K. Membe said.

The Tanzanian Minister on a three day visit said so when he met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the latter's ministry on Monday. The two ministers held discussions on strengthening bilateral economic relations.

Minister Membe expressed his pleasure over the rapid development achieved by Sri Lanka within a short period after ending a terrorist war.

Minister Rajapaksa said he would extend Sri Lanka's maximum co-operation towards strengthening bilateral economic relations with Tanzania.

The Tanzanian Minister is expected to enter into two Memoranda of Understanding with Sri Lanka on the establishment of an Integrated Commission on Co-operation and Bilateral Understanding on Political Counseling and another agreement on Coconut Development and Research.

Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilake and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Chairman Bhaswara Senanka were among the participants.
