Sri Lanka's High Commissioner-designate for Kenya T. Raveenthiran presented credentials to Achim Steiner , Executive Director/Under Secretary-General of UNEP at the office of the Executive Director at Nairobi on 16.08.2011.
The Sri Lanka High Commission in Kenya is accredited to the UNEP and the UN- HABITAT as well. Mr. Achim Steiner, the Executive Director warmly welcomed the High Commissioner and appreciated Sri Lanka’s contribution to the UNEP. The High Commissioner provided an insights into the developments in Sri Lanka, especially in the North and the East, in the aftermath of the defeat of terrorism. The Executive Director admired the scenic beauty and the biodiversity of Sri Lanka and had indicated the country would be able to realize its full potential as the scourge of terrorism has been eradicated.
The High Commissioner thanked the Executive Director for affording an opportunity to meet/brief and present credentials and also indicated the continued support and cooperation in tackling environmental issues as a matter of priority.
