Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Kapila Fonseka presented his Credentials to the President of Finland Alexander Stubb at a ceremony held in Helsinki, Finland on 21 May 2025, assuming his role as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Finland, with residence in Stockholm. Presenting the Credentials, Ambassador Fonseka conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the President of Finland, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
During his visit to Helsinki for the presentation of Credentials, the Ambassador held high-level meetings with senior officials of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and other key institutions in Finland. These discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to trade, tourism, and investment promotion from Finland to Sri Lanka.
The Ambassador visited the Buddhist Vihara in Helsinki, paid his respects to the Chief Incumbent Ven Bambarabotuve Ananda Mangala Thero, and held a discussion with members of the Sri Lankan community who had gathered to the Vihara to meet him. The Ambassador also held a meeting with the members of Sri Lankan associations in Finland. On both occasions, the Ambassador discussed the challenges faced by the Sri Lankan community members in Finland and exchanged ideas of possible solutions, emphasizing the need for closer cooperation between the Sri Lankan community and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm.
Sri Lanka and Finland enjoy cordial bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1954. The Embassy of Sri Lanka based in Stockholm, Sweden is concurrently accredited to Finland since 2022.
