The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Nigeria Thambirajah Raveenthiran who is concurrently accredited as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Burkina Faso, recently presented his Credentials to President Roch Mare Christian Kabore of Burkina Faso at the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou.
The Sri Lankan envoy availed himself of this opportunity to brief the President of Burkina Faso on the current situation in Sri Lanka and conveyed the greetings from the President of Sri Lanka to his counterpart in Burkina Faso. In response, the President of Burkina Faso requested the Ambassador to convey his well wishes to the President of Sri Lanka.
The Ambassador thanked the President of Burkina Faso for all the support that his country has rendered so far to Sri Lanka in the International Fora and requested for the same degree of support in the future as well. The President remarked that Burkina Faso would be there to assist Sri Lanka whenever such assistance is required.
The President of Burkina Faso expressed satisfaction over the status of relations between the two countries and indicated his desire to strengthen them further, covering new areas of cooperation for the benefit of both countries. President Kabore admired social developments in Sri Lanka and expressed his desire to learn from Sri Lanka’s experiences.
This is the first time that a Sri Lankan Ambassador presented Credentials in Burkina Faso since Sri Lanka established formal diplomatic relations with the West African State in 2012.
