Sri Lankan table tennis players take part in the Asian Hopes and Challenges Week Competition in Amman, Jordan

 

Two Sri Lankan players participated in a table tennis tournament (under- 12 age category) in the Asian Hopes and Challenges Week Competition, on an invitation extended by the Jordan Table Tennis Federation. The tournament, which had participants representing Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, Jordan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia was held from 14 to 19 September at the Sports City in Amman, Jordan.

The two Sri Lankan players paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, at the Embassy on 19 September. Welcoming the team, Ambassador Wijegunasekara highly appreciated the skills and dedication of the Sri Lankan players and their participation in the tournament.

During the competition, Ambassador Wijegunasekara thanked the Jordan Table Tennis Federation for the great opportunity opened up for Sri Lankan players to participate in the tournament and highlighted the importance of promoting soft diplomacy alongside traditional political and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Jordan.
