Sri Lankan, Russian, and international students pay tribute to the victims of Easter Sunday massacre

In the evening of April 23, 2019 young Sri Lankans, currently studying at universities in Moscow, came to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia to pay tribute to the victims of eight bomb blasts that occurred in various parts of Sri Lanka on April 21.

The students lit candles and laid flowers in front of the Lord Buddha statue on the territory of the Embassy, after which student representatives of more than 11 universities signed in the Book of Condolence, namely: Moscow State Construction University, Lomonosov Moscow State University (Institute of Asian and African Countries), Moscow Aviation Institute, First Moscow State Medical University. Higher School of Economics, Moscow State Pedagogical University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Russian People’s Friendship University, National University of Science and Technology MISiS, and Moscow Automobile and Road Construction University.

H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, Mrs. Sanja Jayatilleka, as well as members of the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia were also present during the candle lighting ceremony. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka greeted and thanked each participant individually.
