On 3 March 2026, Ambassador-designate Sashikala Premawardhane met with Chief of the Maritime Security Agency of Indonesia, Vice Admiral Dr. Irvansyah S.H., to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Indonesia’s Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) and Sri Lanka’s Coast Guard Department with a specific focus on Search and Rescue (SAR), Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), capacity building and training opportunities and maritime surveillance and security.
Vice Admiral Irvansyah warmly welcomed Ambassador-designate Premawardhane and the delegation from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta to the Maritime Security Agency’s headquarters in Jakarta.
The discussion centred on exploring the possibility of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maritime Security Agency of Indonesia and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to facilitate information and intelligence exchange, share expertise and knowledge, and establish a more structured dialogue between the two agencies to promote mutual interests as maritime neighbors.
Both parties agreed to initiate the process of concluding a MoU on cooperation between the Maritime Security Agency of Indonesia and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard at the earliest convenience.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia in the field of maritime safety and security.
