In line with the Embassy’s consular outreach program, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, visited Sri Lankan management and employees at the MAS Kreeda Al Safi in Dulayl on 06 September 2025.
Ambassador Wijegunasekara was warmly welcomed by the country head and the management staff of the MAS Kreeda. The company employs more than a thousand workers, including Sri Lankan staff in various manufacturing sites in Jordan. It owns and operates three factories in Jordan, including Sahab and Madaba, which produce garments for international sports brands and active wear mainly for export to the U.S. and Europe.
The Ambassador availed herself of the opportunity to discuss trade challenges associated with the garment and textile sector in Sri Lanka and Jordan. She also held fruitful meetings with the factory management and witnessed the impressive achievements made by MAS Kreeda since its establishment in Jordan, especially its world-class production facilities, environment-friendly manufacturing processes and practices, and workplace safety, along with initiatives for workers’ welfare.
During the visit, the Ambassador briefed the management on the current state of economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan. She further encouraged Sri Lankans to participate in community activities, including Embassy-led events.
Around 80 percent of Sri Lankans in Jordan are employed in the garment manufacturing sector. They are known to hold supervisory positions overseeing quality control, pattern making, and product development.
According to data from the Department of Statistics of Jordan, garments contribute approximately 20 percent to the country’s total export earnings.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Sri Lankan employees at the factory to gain a deeper understanding on the means to access the Embassy’s consular and other services.
