The newly appointed Sri Lankan Envoy for Kuwait, Mr. Kaandeepan Balasubramaniam presented credentials to His Highness, Sabha Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabha, the Emir of the State of Kuwait, at the official Residence of His Highness, the “Bhayaan Palace” in Kuwait City on 15th September 2015.
The Ambassador, escorted in a motorcade by Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry officials, was received by dignitaries of the Palace followed by a guard of honour.
Following ceremonial formalities, the Ambassador presented the letter of credence, and had an audience with His Highness the Emir, where the two exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. Extending customary courtesies, Ambassador Kaandeepan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithiripala Sirisena to His Highness. Reciprocating, the Emir extending his warm greetings to the Sri Lanka President, and recalled fond memories of his visit to Sri Lanka many years back, where he had admired the beauty and hospitality of Sri Lanka.
Expressing profound satisfaction with the relations between the two Countries, His Highness hoped that the existing bilateral ties between the two countries would be nurtured and further strengthened during the tenure of the new Ambassador. The Emir assured the Envoy of his Government’s fullest cooperation for a successful term of office in Kuwait.
The Ambassador informed the Emir of his wishes to assist in providing more opportunities for skilled and professional Sri Lankans to contribute towards the transformation of Kuwait into a modern city, as well as contribute to foster the image of Sri Lanka in the Middle East and explore new avenues for the promotion of Ceylon Tea, Gem & Jewelry, spices and inbound-Tourism from Sri Lanka to Kuwait.
His Higness Emir Al Sabha congratulated the Ambassador on the assumption of office of the new Government in Sri Lanka and expressed hope that the new government would work towards religious and ethnic harmony in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Kaandeepan apprised His Highness of the vision of the newly elected Government and its unwavering commitment to address its challenges and develop the country for all its citizens.
Ambassador Kaandeepan is a Career Diplomat with approximately 20 years of experience in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service and has served in Sri Lanka Missions in the Netherlands, Philippines, China, and Egypt. He had recently served as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in South–west China in Chengdu, until he was appointed as Ambassador for the State of Kuwait. Mr. Kaandeepan who holds a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Peradeniya (PGIA) and is an alumnus of the Methodist Central College, Batticaloa.
