Sri Lanka received the title of the “Most Popular Tourist Destination” at the Buyers Night and Award Ceremony held on March 07, 2013 in Guangzhou, China on the sidelines of the Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2013.
It is another remarkable achievement for the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Campaign being carried out in China jointly by the Sri Lanka Missions in China, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lankan Airlines and Sri Lanka Tour Operators.
Sri Lanka Tourism was exhibited at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2013 held from March 07 to 09, 2013 in Guangzhou and was organized by Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, Sri Lanka Consulate in Guangzhou, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines together with 14 Sri Lanka Tour Operators and Hoteliers.
On the sidelines of the Guangzhou International Travel Fair, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Road Shows were held in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Road Show provides a platform for business networking with face to face meetings of Sri Lanka and Chinese Tour Operators. It also disseminates information on Sri Lanka to the Chinese travel media. A total of 64 Chinese Tour Operators participated at the Road Shows and 27 Chinese Travel Media covered events providing wide publicity for Sri Lanka Tourism in the Chinese media.
At the opening ceremony of the Tourism Promotion Road Show in Guangzhou, Ranjith Uyangoda, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China stated that Sri Lanka is a unique and naturally diversified tourist destination of the world providing multiple experiences including the warm Sri Lankan hospitality to Chinese tourists who visit Sri Lanka. He further stated that as the arrival of Chinese tourists in Sri Lanka has increased exponentially since 2010, this is the high time for the Chinese tour operators to enter Sri Lanka tourism market.
At the request of the Ambassador, the Director General of the Guangzhou Municipality Tourism Administration has agreed to lead a travel trade delegation to Sri Lanka with a view to promoting Sri Lanka Tourism in Guangzhou.
