Sri Lanka represents at the Abey Heritage Festival 2019 at the Lebanese University in Abey

The Embassy of Sri Lanka, along with the Sri Lankan community in Lebanon, participated at the prominent cultural and heritage festival organized by the Abey Heritage Association at the Faculty of Technology of the Lebanese University in Abey from 03-04 August 2019.

Abey is renowned as the ‘city of culture’ in the mount- Lebanon, and the festival has articulated in a way of exhibiting Lebanese culture and music, whilst offering opportunity for Foreign Missions based in Beirut and regional business entities to showcase the aspects of diverse cultures. The guest of honour, Professor Jaafar Abdel Khalek, the representative of the Minister of Culture, Mayor of the Abey- Ain  Drafel Municipality, Ghassan Hamzi and President of Abey Heritage Association, Effat Kanaan Abou – Assaly inaugurated the festival and the international cultural night on 03 August 2019.

Under the patronage of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Lebanon, H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis, the Embassy showcased the Sri Lankan Handcrafts, batik, organic rice, Ceylon tea, traditional ornaments, handloom products and delicacies. Moreover, two dancing items performed by the Sri Lankan community in Lebanon added colour to the event.

The Ceylon Tea was also served to the attendees, whilst distributing leaflets related to specialty of Ceylon Tea. Sri Lankan food stall arranged by the Sri Lankan community sold variety of food during the two day festival. Moreover, it was an occasion for migrant employees to showcase and trade their handmade products.

The two day event was also concluded with a scrumptious dinner offered by the organizers and a Musical Night with the participation of Lebanese singers.
