Sri Lanka officially inaugurated its pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which brought together over 150 participating nations under the global theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”. The Sri Lanka pavilion is hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan and the Sri Lankan business community in Japan, celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage and forward-looking development vision.
Launched under the theme “Sustainable Management of Marine Resources”, the pavilion reflects Sri Lanka’s commitment to a nature-positive future, anchored in its biodiversity, maritime legacy, and growing service economy.
Inaugurating the pavilion, Charge d’Affaires (a.i.) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan, Sesath Thambugala highlighted the significance of the expo as a global platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and its potential as a destination for trade, investment, and tourism. She expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its support and appreciation to the Sri Lankan business community and associations in Japan for their vital contributions to the organization and operation of the pavilion.
Located in the Commons A Pavilion within the Empowering Lives zone (No. D-3), the pavilion will feature Ceylon tea, coconut-based products, spices, Ayurveda, handicrafts, and promote opportunities in ICT, skilled employment, and investment, throughout the six-month expo. A key highlight of the pavilion is the tea counter hosted by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, where visitors can taste sample specialty teas from the island’s seven tea-growing regions. A series of cultural performances, investor forums, and business networking events will also be held, positioning Sri Lanka as an attractive hub for travel, trade, and partnerships.
Other institutions represented at the pavilion included the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Coconut Development Authority, National Crafts Council, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, and the National Gem and Jewellery Authority.
