After the trade fair industry re-start, Sri Lanka was again part of ANUGA 2021, which is the world’s leading and most influential business platform for the international food and beverages industry.
Most Sri Lankan companies at the Fair specialized in Tea, and other companies showcased a diverse range of products from organic virgin coconut oil to dehydrated fruits and Ceylon spices.
This year, over ten leading companies from Sri Lanka participated at Anuga, the most important industry meeting point, with 4,000 exhibitors from around 94 countries. Representatives of Sri Lankan enterprises interacted with potential international buyers and existing clients at this significant global Exhibition.
The leading central theme of this year’s Anuga is ‘Food Transformations,’ focusing on sustainability, healthy foods, and industry trends such as to have a stable market and ensure the ethical way of food production. Accordingly, the usual physical trade fair with product presentations on-site in Cologne was enhanced by the digital element Anuga @home. Thus, bringing the industry players worldwide together regardless of their location or time zone and creating a digital trade fair experience on the screens at home or in the office.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt am Main, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin, and the Tea Board supported Sri Lanka’s participation.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany Manorie Unambuwe and Consul General of Sri Lanka to Frankfurt Madurika Joseph Weninger visited Sri Lanka Booths and spoke to all representatives of the companies present on how to expand further exports to Germany.
At the opening ceremony of ANUGA 2021, as keynote speaker, the German Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Julia Klöckner emphasized that ‘the food industry and trade were an important economic factor in Germany. It would contribute to food security, supply and enjoyment and innovation, as well as thousands of jobs’.
