Sri Lanka participates in Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Exposition

                                    

Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Exposition 2020 was held from 24-26 September at the Canton Fair complex, in Guangzhou, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee and Department of Commerce of Guangdong.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, participated with a country pavilion, consisting of 54 square metres, designed and decorated by the Consulate. Many visitors were enticed to the pavilion due its diverse attractions in vibrant colours embossed on its walls and three dimension historical structures, showcasing prominent tourist and archeological sites in Sri Lanka as well as some handicrafts.  The Consulate staff dressed in Sri Lankan traditional dress manned the country pavilion and three Sri Lankan companies, consisting of latex products, gem and jewellery and ‘Ceylon tea’, namely being Richard Pieris Natural Foams Limited, Solar Gems Jewellery (PVT) Ltd and Lion’s Management(PVT) Ltd, participated through their agents at the exposition, in coordination with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Consulate. Sri Lankan Airlines Office based in Guangzhou also participated in the fair.

The fair is a platform to promote one’s culture, tourism, trade and investment. It is an annual event, which commenced in 2014 in Dongguan, in Guangdong province and was held in Guangzhou this year.

 In the year 2014, the Consulate in coordination with EDB had participated in the exposition with 29 Sri Lankan companies in varied sectors as coir, tea, apparel, gems and jewellery and handicrafts.

51 Embassies and Consulates in Beijing and Guangzhou showcased their country pavilions and out of that number, Sri Lanka country pavilion was published in the ‘Nanfang Daily’ the leading newspaper in Guangdong.

Over 900 international and local branded companies participated online and offline in the fair, while over 80,000 people visited the fair.
