The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo was invited to participate in the Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Festival 2014 which held its opening ceremony under the patronage of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamodo at the Tokyo Dome on 14th February 2014, with over 20 participating countries. Among the supporting ministries were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry and the World Orchid Conference Trust.

The Orchid Festival 2014 which was held under the patronage of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamodo was hosted by the Japan Grand Prix (JGP) Working Committee comprising the Yomiuri Shimbun Newspaper, the NHK and the JGP Organising Committee.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka participated at the event displaying a table decorated with Sri Lankan handicrafts and products, adorned by a beautiful selection of orchids to the select audience that graced the opening ceremony at the Tokyo Dome. The main objective of the Festival is to build friendship between countries as orchids are grown all over the world except in the Arctic and Antarctic.

The Orchid Festival will be held from 14th to 23rd February and will be open for public viewing. Approximately 3000 species and around 100,000 orchids were on display and showcased at the Festival. The Embassies that displayed orchids at the Festival were Belgium, Korea, Uruguay, Zambia and Palestine.
