Kuwait celebrated Christmas celebrations which included divine Mass and the Carol programme with colourful events in a sparkling family atmosphere at the Embassy premises on 28th December 2012. The celebration started with divine Mass was concelebrated by His Lordship Most Rev. Bishop Dr. Harold Anthony Perera and Rev. Fr. Basil Fernando.
Carol service and performance were followed by brief remarks from H.E. C A H M Wijeratne Ambassador, who welcomed the distinguished invitees and Sri Lankan community who came to join the festivity, while urging them to remember in silence their compatriots scarified their lives for the motherland as well as devastated by Tsunami. H.E. the Ambassador likewise thanked the Catholic Gild steward by Rev. Sister Darshani, who was the main player in organizing the event as well as Cultural Association, Foreign Employment Agency Association, and other well wishers who assisted the Embassy in making the event a success. He also thanked the Embassy colleagues for their valuable contributions.
In his remarks His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Harold Anthony Perera emphasized the importance of caring for the weak, the powerless and marginalized, and giving one’s self to others all year round through “Our God given will and talents”. This, he said was the true meaning of Christmas. He also mentioned the need to pray to God at all times for continued strengthen and courage.
Following the remarks, a drama produced by Sister Darshani was staged. Children danced to the tune of Christmas songs. At the end of the programme snack was served to all. The Santa gave away Christmas presents to children.
An estimate 750 people attended the Christmas celebration. This event was appreciated highly by the participants.
