Sri Lanka donates Relief Aid to Vanuatu

As a token of solidarity with the people of Vanuatu, the Government of Sri Lanka has sanctioned a cash contribution of USD 50,000 to the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu, as relief aid to the nation, which had been devastated by Cyclone Pam which struck the Pacific island nation recently.

The Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canberra, Australia, Mr. Periyasamy Pillai Selvaraj called on His Excellency Kalfau Kaloris, High Commissioner of Vanuatu in Australia at the High Commission of Vanuatu today and handed over the bank draft amounting to USD 50,000/.

The High Commissioner of Vanuatu conveyed his profound gratitude for the donation and appreciated the contribution of the Government of Sri Lanka to support the people of Vanuatu in their hour of need. The High Commissioner assured the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka that the funds donated by the Government of Sri Lanka would be gainfully utilized in meeting the immediate challenges of shelter and sanitation, faced by the cyclone affected people in Vanuatu.

The High Commissioner also conveyed his best wishes to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and emphasized the strong bonds of friendship that exist between the two countries and pledged to further enhance these relations, for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.
