The Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai organised an event to celebrate Thai Pongal with the participation of the staff of the Deputy High Commission on 12 January 2024 at the Chancery premises.
The event included components of Traditional Thai Pongal such as boiling of milk, making of sweet Pongal, kolam designs and a pooja to invoke happiness and prosperity on the people.
Thai Pongal is widely celebrated in Tamil Nadu and by Tamil people across the globe, during the solar equinox as a thanksgiving to Sun God (Surya), Lord Indra, Mother Nature and farm animals that contributed to the harvest.
