President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom presided over the signing ceremony of three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) at the President's Office in Malé on Wednesday.
The agreement between the health sectors, signed by External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris and Maldivian Health and Gender Minister Dr. Mariyam Shakeela focused on exchanging specialists and trained staff, training of nurses and the provision of consultation services.
The second agreement between the Sri Lanka Board of Investment and the Maldivian Economic Development Ministry aimed at promoting investment promotion between the two countries and was signed by Prof. Peiris and Maldives Economic Development Minister Mohamed Saeed.
Prof. Peiris and Maldivian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon signed the agreement on search and rescue. This agreement will facilitate coordination of search and rescue operations in the sea.
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake, External Affairs Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Members of Parliament A.H.M. Azwer, Lohan Ratwatta, Udith Lokubandara, Ranjith de Zoysa and Thenuka Vidanagamage, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and External Affairs Ministry Secretary Kshenuka Senewiratne were also present at the signing ceremony.
