Relations between Sri Lanka and South Africa have been further strengthened with the signing of the Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of Republic of South Africa on 21 st February, 2014 at an official ceremony held in the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa in Pretoria. The Agreement enables designated airlines of both countries to establish and operate international air services on agreed routes between the South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The Agreement was signed by Hon. Minister of Transport of the Republic of South Africa Ms. Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, on behalf of South Africa and Hon. Minister of Irrigation & Water Resources Management Mr.Nimal Siripala de Silva, on behalf of Sri Lanka. His Excellency the High Commissioner of South Africa in Sri Lanka Mr. Geoff Doidge and His Excellency the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Pretoria Mr. Shehan Ratnavale were also present on this occasion.
At the signing ceremony, both Ministers expressed their satisfaction at the signing of the Agreement, which is expected to enhance overall cooperation between the South Africa and Sri Lanka.
