Dassanayake said the decision taken by SLC would be fruitful for Nepal at a time when Nepal is gearing up for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3.
KATHMANDU, Sept 3: The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) executive committee has decided to host tours for non-Test playing nations of Asia, including Nepal, for the development of cricket in the region.
According to a media release of SLC, its executive committee on Monday decided to host tours for Nepal, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong. The tours will be funded by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
However, the media release did not give any further details regarding the tour.
Acting General Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Uttam Karmacharya, said the cricket governing body is not aware of any such decision by Sri Lanka though it had received a letter from ACC.
"Till today [Wednesday] we have not received any official information about the decision of SLC but ACC had earlier sought CAN´s approval for a tour," said Karmacharya.
Meanwhile, national cricket team coach Pududu Dassanayake said the decision taken by SLC would be fruitful for Nepal at a time when Nepal is gearing up for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3. He said the Nepali cricket team needs such support from Test-playing nations.
"As we are participating in the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 and other important tournaments in the near future, we need such tours and I am glad that SLC is providing such opportunities. It is a great opportunity for Nepal," said an elated Dassanayake, adding, "Nepal will get chances to play against the best teams during the Sri Lanka tour."
Final decision on CAN CEO Saturday
CAN Acting General Secretary Uttam Karmacharya said that interviews for the chief executive officer (CEO) and finance officer of CAN completed on Wednesday and that CAN would take a final decision on the issue during its board meeting on Saturday.
According to Karmacharya, International Cricket Council (ICC) representative Amar Sheikh interviewed five candidates for the post of CEO and four candidates for finance officer in the presence of CAN officials.
CAN had announced vacancies for the posts a few months ago after ICC asked the cricket governing body to appoint a CEO and a finance officer.
