The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore partnered with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) & International Enterprise (IE) Singapore to organize a seminar on "Business Opportunities in Sri Lanka" on 15th November, 2016 at the auditorium of the Singapore Business Federation. The seminar attracted over 80 senior representatives from companies based in Singapore. H.E. Mr. Nimal Weeraratne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore addressed the gathering with a tone-setting opening speech whereas Dr R. Theyvendran, Vice Chairman of Singapore Business Federation & South Asia Business Group made the welcome remarks.
A country presentation highlighting Business Environment and Economic Developments in Sri Lanka was made by Mr. Duminda Ariyasinghe, Director General of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. Detailed Presentations on "Sectoral Opportunities for Singapore Companies in Sri Lanka" and "Setting Up Business and Taxation in Sri Lanka" were also made at the event by the representatives from International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and KPMG Sri Lanka respectively.
Mr. Shamil Mendis, President of Singapore-Sri Lanka Business Council affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce led a 18- member high powered business delegation to the event. The seminar was followed by a well structured session of one-on-one business meetings between the members of the Sri Lankan business delegation and their Singaporean counterparts.
A networking dinner hosted by H.E. the High Commissioner on 14th November provided an opportunity for the Sri Lankan business delegates to interact with the Sri Lankan expatriate community and prospective Singaporean businessmen.
The Commercial Division of Sri Lanka High Commission headed by Ms. Rekha Mallikarachchi, First Secretary organized business networking sessions for the visiting Sri Lankan Business delegation with two prominent Chambers of Commerce in Singapore on the 16th November 2016. The networking session with the members of Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI)was attended by a diverse group of Singapore based Malay Companies headed by Ms. Shila Yatiman, the Executive Director of SMCCI. Another luncheon networking session organized by the Singapore-Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry(SICCI) under the guidance of the Chairman, Dr. R . Theyvendran provided the opportunity for the delegates to interact with Singapore based Indian companies to seek business opportunities for mutual benefit.
