The Qatar-Sri Lanka Business Council (QSBC) was officially launched at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Qatar under the patronage of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Qatar Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen, on 18 July, 2024.. This pivotal initiative, affiliated with the Embassy, aims to strengthen the business ties between Qatar and Sri Lanka by promoting and enhancing trade and commerce across various sectors.
Ambassador Mohideen highlighted the council's primary objective; to elevate bilateral trade relations and create an environment conducive to business growth. He emphasized that the council comprises professionals with extensive experience in Qatar's market across diverse sectors, including banking, hospitality, trade, finance, and investments, ensuring that the council operates with a high level of expertise and insight.
The newly appointed President of the QSBC John Prasad underscored the council's importance as a milestone in fostering robust economic ties between the two nations. He noted that the council's efforts would focus on encouraging investments in key areas such as tourism, real estate, manufacturing, and services.
The council's leadership team includes Vice-President Ahamed Yoonus, Secretary Waruna Gunasekara, and Treasurer Aadil Nastar. Together, they aim to drive the council's mission forward, starting with participation in significant upcoming events such as Hospitality Qatar (November 12-14), Qatar Travel Mart (November 25-27), and Web Summit Qatar (February 23-26, 2025).
In addition to launching the council, Ambassador Mohideen also unveiled the QSBC's logo and website (www.qsbc.qa) at the event, marking the council's official entry into the business landscape. The Qatar-Sri Lanka Business Council is poised to play a crucial role in bridging the business communities of the two countries, fostering economic growth and mutual prosperity.
