Poson Celebrations in Canberra

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra celebrated Poson on 10 June 2025 with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Canberra.

Most Venerable Kotapola Upali Thero and Most Venerable Mahiyangana Dhammapala Thero from the Kambah Temple along with Most Venerable Katuwana Sugathasoma Thero from the Nicholls Temple, Canberra conducted the religious programme, which included Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Dheshana, and the chanting of Seth Pirith to invoke blessings, followed by Gilanpasa Dana.

The audience enjoyed Buddhist devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) performed by well-known music director, composer and singer Nalaka Anjana Kumara.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canberra, Yasoja Gunasekera, in a brief welcome address noted that the arrival of Arahat Mahinda in Sri Lanka marked a civilizational turning point, sparking a spiritual awakening as well as a deep cultural and social transformation, reaching far beyond its religious significance.

The High Commission premises were beautifully adorned with Buddhist flags and lanterns and illuminated with colourful lights, as a vibrant reflection of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage.
