The government will, within the next fortnight, appoint its diplomatic mission heads world-wide and reinstate the diplomats who were interdicted without valid reasons, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ajith C. Perera said 70% of the appointments would be members from the Foreign Service and 30% would be professional and intellectuals who can take Sri Lanka forward in the global arena.
He said, "We will not, on any ground, appoint relatives, friends, girlfriends and ex-girlfriends to any diplomatic post. We will also reinstate those who served the Foreign Service and were 'removed' for no valid reason."
"So far the government has recalled 29 high commissioners and ambassadors, beside 36 Second and Third Secretaries who were posted overseas. "Some of them have returned and many will arrive soon, Minister Perera said.
