He Maithripala Sirisena, President Of Sri Lanka Attends The Swearing-In-Ceremony Of Prime Minister Narendra Modi

 

President Maithripala Sirisena attended the swearing-in-ceremony of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th May, 2019 at the Rashtrapathy Bhawan during a two day visit to New Delhi.

Leaders from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand also participated.

President Sirisena held a bilateral meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31st May 2019.  While congratulating Prime Minister Modi on his second term on his office with a resounding victory at the recently held Indian General Elections, President Sirisena reiterated his commitment to work together strengthening of relations between the two countries for the benefit of the people of the two countries as well as for peace, prosperity and security in the South Asian region.  He further underscored the necessity to work together to eradicate the threat of terrorism.

President Sirisena met journalists from Indian main stream media and Foreign Correspondents based in New Delhi prior to his departure.

President Sirisena was accompanied by Minister of City Planning and Water Supply, Rauff Hakeem, Minister of National Dialogue, Mano Ganesan, Member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Savumiamoorthy Arumugan Ramanathan Thondaman, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, Austin Fernando and Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, M R K Lenagala.
