“Lanka Impression”, a photography exhibition takes place at Redtory, the premier art space in Guangzhou, China, from December 20, 2013 to February 23, 2014, organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou.
The Exhibition is a pictorial depiction of Sri Lanka’s eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, giving visitors a chance to explore Sri Lanka’s historical and cultural heritage as well as the country’s unique biodiversity.
An outstanding collection of photographs by prominent Sri Lankan photographers Dr. Sarala Jeewanthi Gamage and Mr. Waruna Lakmal Godamune, highlighting aspects of the biodiversity in the Central Highlands and the Sinharaja Forest Reserve were of particular interest to visitors.
A selection of Sri Lankan handicraft items displayed proved to be very popular with the local audience.
The coverage by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation of the Esala Perahera plays continuously throughout the exhibition and adds a further sensory dimension to the exhibition – Sri Lanka’s world famous drum rhythms and traditional music resound throughout the art gallery.
Sri Lanka is a land with a recorded history dating back at least twenty five centuries and Sri Lanka’s UNESCO World heritage Sites are a testament to the country’s civilizational achievements and rich heritage. Further, “Lonely Planet “has described traveling in Sri Lanka as being a truly life changing experience for any traveler, noted Consul General Yasoja Gunasekera, to the capacity crowd that attended the opening of the event, including Chinese Government officials, members of the diplomatic community, the media, and members of the general public of all ages.
Large numbers of visitors have already visited the exhibition and audience feedback indicates that the exhibition has inspired many more Chinese tourists from South China to visit Sri Lanka.
