The Foreign Secretary of the Kingdom of Jordan Moh’dTaisir Bani Yassin, visited Sri Lanka from May 18-20, 2016 for bilateral discussions with Sri Lankan officials. The visit is a part of the ongoing engagement between the two countries to explore new avenues for increased bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, the Foreign Secretary of Jordan called on Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and exchanged views on further expanding the relations between the two countries. The visiting Foreign Secretary handed over an invitation to the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka from the Foreign Minister of Jordan to undertake an official visit to Jordan at a mutually convenient time.
Foreign Secretary Chitranganee Wagiswara hosted a working luncheon to the visiting Foreign Secretary and the delegation. The officials explored ways and means of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields such as trade, investment, tourism, employment and capacity building, including exchanges between diplomatic training institutions in both countries.
The Foreign Secretaries also highlighted the importance of having regular Political Consultations between the two sides. They also discussed the repatriation of around 1000 Sri Lankans in Jordan. The Jordanian Foreign Secretary assured that they would look into the issue favourably.
The Jordanian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hassan M. Al Jawarneh, Director of Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Adel Adaileh, Honorary Consul of Jordon in Sri Lanka Asgi Akbarally, the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Employment of Sri Lanka C.S. Withanage and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated at the discussion.
