The government of Dubai had expressed willingness to offer job opportunities to Sri Lankans in Dubai’s defence sector in 2015, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Chairman Amal Senalankadhikara said yesterday.
The SLBFE chief said that discussions were underway with the government of Dubai regarding such jobs at a monthly salary of between Rs. 75,000 to 100,000.
The Chairman said that the offer had been made at a meeting held with the Director of the Dubai Police Academy, Lt. Gen. Prof. Nasser Ibrahim Kizim at his office recently.
SLBFE Media Spokesman Deputy Director Mangala Randeniya quoted Prof. Ibrahim as having said that the Dubai government had agreed to give an opportunity to Sri Lankans to apply for the jobs and there were more defence sector jobs with higher wages in Dubai for young Sri Lankans.
Prof. Ibrahim had said Dubai government after recruitment of workers for defence jobs would hold a short training programme for successful job applicants under Dubai trainers, Randeniya said.
Prof. Ibrahim had added that those seeking jobs in the West could obtain initial qualification needed to apply for jobs in those countries by working in Dubai.
Higher wages and welfare facilities would be provided to those workers in Dubai, but they would have to conform to strict labour rules, Randeniya said quoting Prof. Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, SLBFE Chairman said that the necessary infrastructure facilities for trainers could be provided locally.
He mentioned that Dubai had agreed to offer jobs in parallel to the Four International Trade Exhibition to be held in Dubai in the year 2020.
Due to the on-going rapid development in Sri Lanka, many countries had expressed their willingness to provide jobs with higher wages, Senalankadhikara added.
