The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan participated in a Charity Bazar organized by the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society [ALFS] in Japan on the second week of April 2014. The ALFS consists of over 25 Asian countries and is primarily engaged in charitable and in philanthropic endeavors.
The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan organized a Sri Lankan Stall at the said Charity Bazar consisting of Ceylon Tea, Handicrafts, Traditional Sri Lankan Food and other products of Sri Lanka, among others. The Chief Guest of the ALFS Charity Bazar was Her Imperial Highness Princess Hanako Hitachi, the spouse of the brother of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
Both HIH Princess Hitachi and Mme. Akie Abe (Spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan) visited the Sri Lankan Stall at the Charity Bazar. The Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and Mme. Ashoka Karannagoda explained the diverse kinds of tea grown in different parts of the country and other handicrafts and products of Sri Lanka to visiting participants at the Charity Bazar.
