High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canada, U. L. Mohammed Jauhar met with the participants of a fundraising bicycle ride from Colombo to Jaffna, co-organised by Trek4Ceylon Canada, Trek4Ceylon UK and Trek4Ceylon Australia.
The High Commissioner commended Trek4Ceylon for the initiative which aims at raising funds in support of the communities in vulnerable areas, especially for addressing their health care needs. Furthermore, he added that the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa is pleased to facilitate the participation of Trek4Ceylon Canada in the bicycle ride.
The participants of the bicycle ride conveyed their appreciation to the High Commissioner for facilitating the participation and the hospitality extended. They also informed that the annual bicycle ride is held to raise funds in support of the delivery of medical services and it has also been extending assistance to needy students and schools.
The High Commissioner observed that their collaboration sets an example to how communities across the world can unite and form partnerships in addressing critical needs of deserving Sri Lankans in areas such as healthcare.
This year’s fundraising ride is scheduled to take place from 12 to 15 February 2025, with the aim of renovating and restoring the St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Puttur. The ride, endorsed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotional Bureau would commence in Colombo and conclude in Puttur, covering over 450 kilometers, with official security arrangements in place. The ride has been conducted since 2017 and has previously financed the development of the Green Memorial Hospital in Manipay.
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa wishes to encourage the Sri Lankan community to support similar initiatives for the benefit of those who need support.
