
The Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, who is also accredited as the Ambassador - designate of Uzbekistan to Sri Lanka with residence in Islamabad, paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner-designate of Sri Lanka, Fred Senevirathne on 07 July 2025 at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad.
The High Commissioner-designate extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador and expressed his gratitude for the visit and kind wishes. He also shared insights into Sri Lanka’s remarkable journey of resilience after the economic crisis. Furthermore, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed his congratulations to the High Commissioner-designate Senevirathne on his new assignment as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Pakistan. He also expressed his keen interest in working closely with the High Commission and the Government of Sri Lanka to establish a strong foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation in a structured and pragmatic manner. Furthermore, he conveyed his intention to visit Sri Lanka to personally present his Letter of Credence to His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka.
Ambassador-designate Tukhtaev provided an overview of Uzbekistan’s rapidly expanding economy and the notable surge in foreign direct investment. He also expressed his intention, during his upcoming visit to Sri Lanka, to meet with the high-level political leadership to discuss ways to deepen cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres, including tourism and labour mobility.
Both sides expressed their readiness to work closely to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka.
Minister at the High Commission of Sri Lanka, A. Christy Ruban, and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Oybek Kambarov, were also present at the meeting.
