High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore celebrates Christmas

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore celebrated Christmas on 20 December 2024 at the High Commission premises. The Assistant Parish Priest of the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Rev. Fr. Julian Mariaratnam conducted prayers and invoked blessings on the gathering and the motherland, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, Senarath Dissanayake emphasised the profound values of Christmas - empathy, kindness, peace, and love for one another. He highlighted that these universal values transcend religious and cultural boundaries, while underscoring their importance in fostering harmony and offering a shared framework for compassion and goodwill, especially in times of social and political divisions.

The evening was further enhanced by the enchanting and melodious singing of the trilingual carol team, primarily comprising Sri Lankan migrant workers, who sang Christmas carols in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, symbolizing unity and diversity. The staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore assisted with the preparations for the carol singing.

The celebration concluded with a light meal featuring traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, offering attendees a reminder of home and enhancing the spirit of togetherness.
