The Ruhunu Magampura Port in Hambantota has earned Rs. 750 million since it started its fuel bunkering operations on June 22 for ships at the new fuel bunkering terminal.
The terminal, which was constructed at a cost of US $95 million under the Magampura Port development project provides fuel for ships.
Ports and Highways Projects Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that seven ships have obtained 5,500 metric tons of fuel as of yesterday at the Magampura Port. The port handles imports and re-export of vehicles as well.
Most recently, the mega bulk carrier MV Eurydice D called at the Magampura Port on July 14, 2014 for bunkering. The ship loaded 1,400metric tons of 380CST marine fuel.
The 289.98 metres MV Eurydice D is the longest vessel that called at the Hambantota port for bunkering. It called at the Hambantota port from the Krishnapatnam Port, India. The next Port of call of the vessel is South Africa.
MV OEL Colombo, MV New Castle Max, MV Antonia S, MV Mohar, MV Diamond T and MV JBU Forth were the other six ships that called at the Hambantota port.
