P.T. Thurairajah, the man who was given the contract to refurbish the official quarters of Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland in 2009 had no criminal record, Minister of External Affairs G.L.Peiries told Parliament yesterday.
According to the Swiss Federal Government‘s Records Division, there was no record of Thrairajah in the "criminal law’.The Minister said that repeated media reports claiming that Thurairajah was linked to the LTTE were "blatant lies."
Referring to the EU court lifting the ban on the LTTE, he said the government did not intervene in the case because the country could not be subjugated before the judiciary of another country.
Instead, he said, the government always acted to provide required input to the respondents.
He also said he had met with the heads of diplomatic missions of EU countries in Colombo soon after the Court ruling. (SI)
