Following the success of the Culinary & Arts Fiesta on Praslin, this Ministry of Tourism and culture in collaboration with the High Commission of Sri Lanka and other tourism trade partners is now organizing an international trade fair for food and hotel suppliers in Seychelles.

Food & Hotel Seychelles (FHS) 2014 is poised to be the largest event of this nature to take place in Seychelles. This was announced in a press conference held last Wednesday at the new offices of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture situated in the Espace Complex. This international food and hotel supplies exhibition is set to take place at the National Sports Council (NSC) Hall at Roche Caïman on the November 28 to 30, 2014.
The announcement was made in the presence of the FHS 2014 committee, organizers and sponsors who include the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Rajatha Piyatissa, the Principal Secretary for tourism, Anne La Fortune, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Sherin Naiken, the chairman of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Marco Francis, the CEO of the Small Enterprise Promotion Agency (SEnPA), Penny Belmont, and the management of Mihin Lanka which is the official airline partner of the event.
In a short speech, Minister St.Ange expressed his satisfaction and thanked all those individuals and organizations that are making this unique event a reality for their contribution. In addition, he addressed the importance of organizing events of this nature in Seychelles and the benefits they can bring for the nation’s tourism sector. He reckons that the trade fair will attract hotel and resort management professionals, suppliers, consultants, entrepreneurs and tourism industry professionals.
“The main objective of the Food & Hotel Seychelles 2014 is to facilitate trade between the exhibitors offering products and services needed by world class resorts and holiday accommodations within the Seychelles tourism industry. FHS will act as a meeting ground and an ideal platform for all the local and international food and hotel suppliers to meet and interact”, said Minister St.Ange.
The event itself is being organized by CDC Events & Travels, a Sri Lankan-based agency specialized in trade fair exhibitions. Today spoke with the company’s managing director, Imran Hassan, who explained that the trade fair will be specifically designed to cater for all sorts of establishments, from small restaurants and guest houses to luxury resorts. Mr. Hassan also stated that both locals and foreigners can apply to have a stall in the trade fair to exhibit their products and services, be it catering equipment and services, food and beverage products, technology, furniture and health leisure products.
Furthermore, Mr. Hassan mentioned during a presentation that besides the large scale exhibition and other related activities, there will also be a culinary competition which could possibly be the main attraction of the entire event. Both individuals and organization can compete in the competition which will be conducted and judged by the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka which is a recognized member of the World Association of Chefs Societies. The Culinary Competition will be divided in 11 categories which include Creative Bread Display, Fruit or Vegetable Carving, Artistic Pastry Showpiece, Novelty Cake and Hot Cooking (meat and seafood) as well as bartending competitions such as cocktail mixology and creative coffee.
Finally, the prestigious Best Chef Award will be given to contestants with the highest average points who participated in at least 3 classes. There will also be an award for the “most outstanding culinary organization”.
