Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, the First Lady met with Madam Peng Liyuan, Spouse of H.E. Xi Jinping President of the People’s Republic of China, on the 7th July 2014 at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.
The First Lady of Sri Lanka, Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, visited China from 06 to 10 July 2014 at the invitation of the All China Women’s Federation.
In Beijing, the First Lady met with Madam Peng Liyuan, the spouse of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China at the Great Hall of the People on 07 July 2014. During the warm and friendly discussion, the two First Ladies spoke highly of the excellent bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China and exchanged views on the development of women and children in the two countries.
Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, the First Lady met with Madam Shen Yueyue, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China & the President of the All China Women’s Federation at the Great Hall of the People on 7th July 2014.
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa also met with Madam Shen Yueyue, the Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and President of the All China Women’s Federation (ACWF). The First Lady appreciated the friendly and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and the ACWF and looked forward to the further strengthening of these relations in the future.
Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, the First Lady visiting Sri Lankan elephant “ Migara” at the Beijing Zoo on 9th July 2014
During the visit, the First Lady was the Guest of Honour at a cultural event organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing in collaboration with the Beijing Zoo and the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to commemorate the birthday of the Sri Lankan elephant named “Migara”. This elephant was gifted to the Chinese people by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his State Visit to China in 2007. The First Lady also visited the Donghuamen kindergarten and a maternal & child care service center in Beijing.
The First Lady also visited Tianjin and met with Madam Zhang Junfang, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Tianjin Municipality. Madam Rajapaksa was the Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony of the medical students (about 80% of the students are Sri Lankan) of the Tianjin Medical University and also visited a kindergarten and a child welfare center.

The All China Women’s Federation is a non-governmental organization of women in China and works to strengthen the unity of Chinese women from all circles and ethnic groups. The ACWF actively develops friendly exchanges with women and women’s organizations around the world with a view to strengthening mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation and contributing to world peace.
The First Lady, Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, was accompanied by Hon. Kamala Ranatunga, M.P., Ranjith Uyangoda Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China and officials of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing.
