The most powerful politico-economic bloc of the world, the European Union (EU), while demonstrating its unstinting commitment to combat and destroy Jihadist terrorists of Islamic states of Iraq and Syria, is apparently showing they have a soft corner for other kind of terrorism, Presidential Spokesman Mohan Samaranayaka told the Daily News yesterday.
He said so on being asked about the significance of the decision taken by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to lift the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
“Whatever the reasons or technicalities that led the European Court of Justice to lift the ban on the LTTE, the lifting of the proscription is tantamount to endangering regional peace and destabilising other countries including Sri Lanka,” he said. ECJ’s decision is definitely beneficial to those organised pro-LTTE groups and the very active Tamil diaspora organisations in EU countries to put in motion their action plan aimed at causing divisions in other countries,” Samaranayaka said.
On one hand, the EU vows to destroy Islamic ISIS terrorism, on the other hand they endorse other forms of terrorism. This goes to show their hypocritical attitude towards some countries and their problems, he said.
The pro-LTTE groups in Tamil Nadu have been demanding the Central Government of India to lift the ban on the LTTE, which it has resisted.
This sort of action can destabilise other countries. It will definitely strengthen pro-LTTE elements and they will start spreading their doctrine of separatism soon enough out in the open, Samaranayaka added.
