The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) organized a FAM Trip for Vietnamese media from 07 to 14 May 2023. Five media personnel namely, Lai Thi Thuy Ha from Van Hoa newspaper, Vu Dinh Toan from Dan tri (people wisdom) newspaper, Bui Thi Lan Anh from VOV e-Newspaper/TV, Nguyen Hong Ha from VTV2-Television, the number 1 TV channel in Viet Nam and Tran Viet Phuong, a blogger and youtuber participated in this event.
The media group visited Negombo, Sigiriya, Minneriya Wild Life Park, Koneshwaram temple in Trincomalee, Passikudah, Ella and Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls, Little Adams Peak, Nuwara Eliya, tea Factories, tea gardens, Kandy and Colombo. They were quite impressed by the natural beauty of Sri Lanka as they enjoyed their stay in Sri Lanka and assured this as a potential new destination to promote among Vietnamese travellers.
Following the visit, Tran Viet Phuong had produced a video lasting for more than one hour which has attracted over one million views in various platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. The videos produced from the VTV 2 has attracted 87,685 views in YouTube and Facebook, whereas the articles produced by other three media representatives have attracted a total of 29,874 views in their respective platforms.
Under the guidance of Ambassador Prof. A. Saj U. Mendis and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Mr. Chalaka Gajabahu, the FAM trip was organized by the Minister (Commercial) of the Embassy Kishani Wickramasinghe and the Junior Manager of SLTPB Danojani Weerasinghe and Chinthaka Liyanage of SLTPB.
Viet Nam tourists are more interested in pilgrim and nature tourism in Sri Lanka and there is an increasing interest towards Sri Lanka. As a result of continuous promotional activities of the Embassy, the first six months of the year recorded over 300% increase in Vietnamese tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka.
