
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Sri Lanka Community in Myanmar and Sri Lanka Business entities, hosted, the Culinary, Tourism and Cultural fest “Flavors of Sri Lanka 2025” on 6th December 2025 at Pan Pacific Hotel Yangonfor the second consecutive time.
The opening segment highlighted the devastation caused by the recent flood and cyclonic weather conditions in Sri Lanka, followed by one- minute silence. Donations from the Myanmar community were accepted for Sri Lanka’s relief efforts.
The event aimed to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism, culture, and cuisine, while strengthening trade, economic, and people-to-people links and encouraging contributions toward the country’s rebuilding efforts.
In her opening remarks, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar Prabashini Ponnamperuma reaffirmed the significance of the bilateral relations, briefed the audience on the current situation in Sri Lanka, and thanked countries, including Myanmar, for their support. She invited the international and business communities to contribute to Sri Lanka’s recovery and expressed appreciation to sponsors, partners, and the Sri Lankan community.
The Sri Lanka Air Force dance troupe presented traditional Sri Lankan performances, while Myanmar traditional dances also featured, underscoring cultural ties. An experienced chef from Sri Lanka prepared traditional Sri Lankan dishes, and guests were served Ceylon tea.
Sri Lanka’s scenic beauty, heritage sites, and tourism opportunities were showcased through continuous promotional video screenings. Gift bags containing Ceylon tea and tourism material were offered to guests.
More than 300 attendees participated, including the Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government U Soe Thein, Mayor and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee U Bo Htay, Minister for Economic Affairs U Myo Myint Aung, Myanmar Government officials, diplomatic community members, UN representatives, travel industry professionals, tour operators, and journalists. Myanmar media provided extensive coverage.
“Flavors of Sri Lanka 2025” formed part of a two-day tourism, trade, and investment promotion programme on 5 and 6 December 2025, during which two B2B sessions on the Information Technology sector and tourism were held, creating opportunities for partnerships between Sri Lankan and Myanmar business entities. The success of the event is expected to support further collaboration between Sri Lanka and Myanmar in tourism, trade, culture, and reconstruction initiatives.
