The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. officially commenced its work for the year 2025 under the leadership of Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C., Mahinda Samarasinghe on 01 January 2025. The day started with a ceremonial observance, reflecting the Embassy's commitment to public service, and the overarching vision of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The proceedings of the ceremony included the hoisting of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem, followed by a solemn two-minute silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for the country. The staff of the Embassy then recited the public officers' oath, reaffirming their dedication to contributing to the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative.
Addressing the Embassy staff, Ambassador Samarasinghe outlined the key objectives for 2025, aligning them with the strategic priorities of the Government of Sri Lanka. He emphasized the Embassy's role in advancing the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative which aims to foster a cleaner physical environment while promoting ethical and moral principles nationwide. He also elaborated on the Economic, Social, and Governance (EESG) framework as the cornerstone of the Embassy's strategic plan.
Further, the Ambassador reiterated the vision of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Government of Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of citizen-centric public service. He called on the Embassy staff to work collaboratively toward delivering efficient and effective public service, ensuring the utmost satisfaction of the Sri Lankan community and other stakeholders.
The Embassy remains committed to achieving its 2025 objectives by fostering international collaboration, upholding sustainability, and contributing to the nation’s recovery and long-term development.
