Sri Lanka, poetically called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, is an amazing place praised for its beautiful beaches, wonderful landscapes and glorious nature that is hardly found anywhere else. Its culture is enriched by centuries of cherished traditions, unique combinations of art, craftsmanship and religious splendor.
Sri Lanka is coming to Moscow, the capital of Russia and a number of major Russian cities as well as the Armenian capital city of Yerevan in a fantastic festival of “Days of Sri Lanka” this summer! The Roadshow will be launched in Moscow on 29 May 2014 and then proceed to Kazan, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd, Rostov and end its journey in Yerevan on 17 June 2014. This colorful and rich festival is meant to bring Sri Lanka closer to Russia and Armenia, bonding these countries in culture and business alike and providing a wondrous background for mutual understanding, love and respect. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation is pleased to invite lovers of culture and art in these cities to share the magical journey into its history, culture and experience its beauty and hospitality.
Sri Lankan civilization is of many facets, so is its vast heritage of picturesque festivals in all colors and traditions, from Buddhism to Christianity Hinduism and Islam. Bringing these unforgettable performances to the people in Russia and Armenia will be by a leading dance troupe from Sri Lanka, whose shows have been received with much fanfare. The shows will be held at major shopping malls and open grounds of the participating cities.
Tea is what commonly is associated with Sri Lanka, or Ceylon, the old name of the country until 1972, and that is no surprise as the Indian Ocean island holds second place in tea export worldwide! There will be an opportunity for sampling of delicious Ceylon tea at performing venues.
Thanks to the popularity of Ayurveda – the ancient form of medicine known to man, Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the world for a relaxing, meditative holiday coupled with Ayurveda therapy. The shopping opportunities that Sri Lanka offers are innumerable and all visitors will always find something special. No wonder, tourists who visit the country love Sri Lanka so much, that they continue visiting the country repeatedly. To demonstrate what Sri Lanka offers to its guests, the Embassy will host a series of tourist workshops focusing on all types of activities that can easily be pursued during a visit to Sri Lanka.
