Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel Celebrates Vesak

Vesak was celebrated on a large scale at the premises of the Sri Lanka Embassy   in Tel Aviv with the Nepali Ambassador H.E. Mr. Prahlad Kumar Prasai gracing the event as the Chief Guest along with the participation of a large number of Sri Lankans and well wishers from the Israeli community.

Following the religious observances, Pirith was chanted to invoke blessings on Sri Lanka and His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa.. A Nepali Buddhist Monk also participated in the event and chanted pirith to invoke blessings.

Bhakthigeetha was sung by an eight member choir comprising of Sri Lankans from the community.

Ambassador Sarath Wijesinghe in his address to the gathering stated that the celebration of Vesak was the most important event in the Buddhist calendar stated that the Buddha’s teachings are as relevant today as it were many centuries ago. The Ambassador espoused on the virtues of following the Sigalavada Sutta, which is the Layperson’s Code of Discipline, stating that this enables one to lead a successful and disciplined life.

The event concluded with refreshments being served to all. The Embassy also participated at two Dansalas it coordinated with members of the Sri Lankan community in Tel Aviv.
