Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, E. A. S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe held discussions with Co-Manager – Australia, Regional Support Office of Bali Process (RSO), David Scott and senior officials of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons, and Related Transnational Crime. The discussions focused on exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in addressing issues of irregular migration, people smuggling, human trafficking and other transnational crimes including the ongoing cyber scam crisis in the Southeast Asia Region.
The Ambassador underscored the urgency of strengthening regional engagement and enhancing joint efforts to effectively combat such challenges. Highlighting the growing threat posed by cyber scam centers and cross-border criminal networks, she emphasized the need for a unified and coordinated response by Bali Process members.
The RSO Co-Manager provided an overview of the ongoing operations and activities in the region, while noting the close collaboration of the Bali Process with Sri Lanka on key initiatives. The Ambassador expressed gratitude for this partnership and called for further technical expertise, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building support to address emerging threats. She highlighted the importance of collective commitment from all member states and partner organizations to address the pressing issues effectively.
Sri Lanka reaffirmed its dedication to working alongside the Bali Process and its members to develop comprehensive strategies and innovative solutions to counter irregular migration, people smuggling, and human trafficking, while fostering a safer and more secure region for all.
