Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain organizes a Community Awareness Session with the People’s Bank of Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka organized a meeting between the representatives of the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain and a delegation of People’s Bank of Sri Lanka on 21 November 2023 at the Embassy premises. The event was organized as a community engagement and awareness-raising programme for the Sri Lankan community, in line with the policies of the Government of Sri Lanka encouraging Sri Lankan migrant workers and expatriates to use official banking channels for remittances.

The meeting provided a platform for the People’s Bank representatives to brief the Sri Lankan community regarding the developments in the banking sector relevant to the Sri Lankan migrant workers and their family members in Sri Lanka, and the opportunity to seek clarifications on their banking matters and remittances. It further afforded an opportunity to highlight the win-win situation for Sri Lankan migrant workers and their dependents in Sri Lanka to derive better facilities through formal banking channels while benefiting the national economy through foreign currency flow.

During the visit of the delegation of People’s Bank, the Embassy facilitated a series of meetings with leading Exchange Houses and Banks in Bahrain, to provide better facilities and services for the Sri Lankan Migrant workers in Bahrain.

The People’s Bank delegation consisted of Assistant General Manager Aruni Liyanagunawardana, and Manager, Overseas Customer Services Hashini Rajapaksa.
