Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman Commemorates International Migrants Day with  Sri Lankan Migrant Workers in Jordan

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman marked International Migrants Day at the Embassy premises on 18 December 2023 with the participation of the Sri Lankan migrant workers in Jordan.

The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem, followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.   Third Secretary (E & W), of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) P.A. Rupasinghe extended a warm welcome to the gathering and expressed gratitude for the support provided by the migrant workers to the country and people.

Charge d’ Affaires a.i. Gajithra Navan delivered a speech underscoring the vital role played by migrant workers in strengthening the economy of Sri Lanka. She expressed gratitude for their unwavering dedication and highlighted the significance of International Migrants Day as a moment to recognize and honour their profound contributions to the society.

Programme Officer – Emergency and Resilience at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Gabrielle Bravo Gala and representative from the International Labour Organization (ILO) Chantal Sirisena, also attended the event.

The event concluded with the serving of Sri Lankan snacks and Ceylon tea.
