In collaboration with Women Association of Sri Lanka in Lebanon, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon celebrated the International Women’s Day at the Embassy premises on 24 March 2019, under the theme of ‘Suhuru Kathak- Soduru Lowak’ (smart lady-better sphere). The celebration was held with the participation of Lebanese Employers, Representatives of Civil Labour Organizations and Non-Governmental organizations in Lebanon amidst of Sri Lankan expatriates in Lebanon.
Joining the celebration, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon, Mrs. H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijerathne Mendis recited the message of the President Maithripala Sirisena on the occasion of the International Women’s Day for the year 2019. Second Secretary/HOC welcomed the gathering, whilst emphasizing the role of expatriated Women in Lebanon with dignity, and highlighted that speculative savings of remittances to safeguard their retired life.
The Sri Lanka Women of Association in Lebanon bestowed a token of appreciation to the H.E. the Ambassador in recognizing the devoted service rendered for the wellbeing of Sri Lankans in Lebanon. In the sidelines of the event, a symbolic cake cutting ceremony also held to mark the Women’s day.
The dignity of the renowned Sri Lankan women was demonstrated in a multi-media presentation under the theme of ‘honoured Sri Lankan Women’ that made Mother Sri Lanka proud in the world. Alternative multi-media presentation and a lecture on ‘raising awareness on HIV AIDS disease’ was conducted by Ms. Zara Khadhora, representative official of the society, ‘the A project’, for the betterment of Sri Lankan expatriates in Lebanon.
Women expats in Lebanon performed as vocalists, and dancers in exhibiting their artistic talents. All the performers were acknowledged with certificates of appreciation.
President of the Women Association of Sri Lanka in Lebanon thanked the attendees to mark the International Women’s day. The event concluded with a scrumptious reception for the participants.
