The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh felicitated Shervini Nimeesha Shanthakumar, a student of the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh, for her remarkable feat of obtaining the highest marks internationally for the subject of English literature at the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) 2019. She was the recipient of the Pearson Edexcel Outstanding Learner - Global Award for this subject this year.
Pearson Edexcel awards are world-renowned qualifications, built on the UK education system and accepted by universities globally. Shevini’s achievement is significant, as it is a competitive examination held across over 80 countries worldwide including over 350 independent schools in the United Kingdom alone.
Ambassador Azmi Thassim in his address stated that he was proud of this achievement of Shervini and thus felt the need to honour her on behalf of all Sri Lankans. “I am happy that we are able to organise this ceremony with the participation of a cross-section of the Sri Lankan community, Shevini has brought honour to our nation, Sri Lanka globally”, he added. He also thanked her teachers, the school and its management, and also Shevini’s parents.
This ceremony followed the annual awards day of her school where she was accorded a standing ovation by the audience when she received the award from the Ambassador in the presence of a large gathering of invitees, parents, teachers, students and well-wishers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
