A group of Sri Lankan students from various universities in Lahore had the opportunity to meet with Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne who led the Sri Lankan delegation to Pakistan for the 1st Joint CPA Asia & South-East Asia Regional Conference held from 06 to 10 February 2025 in Lahore. The meeting took place on 09 February 2025 at the office of the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore.
The delegation included Deputy Minister of National Integration, MP Mulaffer Mohamed Muneer; MP Tushari Jayasinghe; MP Janath Chithral Fernando; MP Karunanathan Ilankumaran and Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Kushani Rohanadeera.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore, Yasin Joyia along with his staff members. During the meeting, they engaged in a productive discussion with the group of Sri Lankan students on areas including academic opportunities, visa-related challenges, and the overall well-being of Sri Lankan students in Pakistan.
The meeting provided a valuable platform for students to voice their concerns and receive support from their government representatives. Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, A. Chirty Ruban assured the students of the continued assistance rendered by the government and emphasized the government's commitment to improving educational experiences and career opportunities for Sri Lankan students in Pakistan.
The delegation also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries. The interaction with students underscored the importance of fostering academic collaboration, scholarship opportunities, and enhancing initiatives for student welfare.
The students expressed their gratitude to Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, the delegation, the Acting High Commissioner, and the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore for their guidance and support.
