Day of Vesak in Brussels

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels celebrated the Day of Vesak 2025 at the Official Residence on 17 May 2025 with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Most Venerable Kurunagala Ananda Gosha Thero from ‘Mahamevna’ Buddhist Monastery in the Netherlands and Chief Incumbent of the Thai Dhammarama Temple in Belgium Venerable Wisuddhi Chotipratoom Thero conducted the Vesak religious programme including the Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Deshana, a brief meditation programme and invoking blessings by chanting Sethpirith followed by ‘Gilanpasa’ Dhana. The Venerable monks highlighted the importance and relevance of practicing the universal teachings of Buddha on compassion, loving kindness, peace, non-discrimination and devotion for humanity, more than ever before as the world sees more human suffering, pain and division.

While sending his warmest greetings to Buddhist devotees, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium Chandana Weerasena explained how Buddha’s teachings could help finding solutions to all challenges in the contemporary world beyond borders.

The staff of the Embassy sang Buddhist devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) for the 5th consecutive year.  The Sri Lankan Community too sang the “Bakthi Gee” making the event colourful.   The Embassy and the Official Residence premises were decorated with Buddhist flags, Vesak lanterns and illuminated with colourful lights.
